To close this winter season, for our March subscription box we have selected 4 very unique chocolate bars, from unique chocolate makers.

We know, we are all waiting for the cold to go away, and for the colors and flowers to start popping up everywhere. Therefore we have decided to share with you some chocolate bars with a very interesting twist.

Because we believe every chocolate bar has a story to tell, for this month, the chocolate journey will take you through prize winning bars, chocolates with inclusions, and even chocolates with reduced sugar.

So, let’s jump right into it and share the story behind each bar and their chocolate makers.

Georgia Ramon –Almond and Spices 70%

This is a dark vegan chocolate with strong spicy flavours, crafted with almonds and almond flour instead of milk powder. It is very mild for a dark chocolate, but with all the strong flavours that delight us during winter time.

Georgia Ramon is a small craft chocolate maker from Bonn, in Germany. Founded in 2015 by Georg Bernardini, a famous author of several chocolate books and also an experienced chocolate taster since many years. Their main focus is on quality, creativity and passion.

Tasting profile: delicate, mild and appeals to the palate even after the main winter season.

Chocolate Tree – Peru Marañon 60%

Strong milk chocolate made from rare PURE NACIONAL cacao beans, from the Marañón canyon, at the foothills of the Andes mountains. This 60% dark milk chocolate bar won Bronze in the International Chocolate Awards in 2015.

Chocolate Tree is a an award winning craft chocolate maker from Scotland. They focus in connecting their consumer with their raw materials and their transformation process, by focusing in complete transparency. Their chocolate bars are not only popular for their taste, but even more characterized for their stunning packaging artwork.

Tasting profile: sweet coffee taste with hints of caramel and vanilla, leading to a fruity-citrus finish.

Krakakoa– Sedayu Sumatra 70%

Winner of bronze medal in the Academy of chocolate in 2017, this chocolate bar is a very aromatic single origin, farm-to-bar chocolate. It is crafted with beans from the Sedayu village, south of Sumatra. The village of Sedayu is located at the foothills of the Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park, which gives these cacao beans a very special aroma flavour profile, characteristic from the region.

Founded in 2013, Krakakoa is complete Indonesian and all their bars are produced “from the farmer to the chocolate bar”. Being one of the first bean-to-bar chocolate makers in the country, their motto is: “Commitment to giving the goodness of the Archipelago”. They believe in their ingredients and their people, and therefore keep the entire production process in Indonesia.

Tasting Notes:  red berries and spices. To the more experienced palate, cranberry flavors, as well as honey and ginger notes can be identified.

Zotter – Labooko 70%/30% Milk Chocolate Dark Style – No addedd sugar 

A milk chocolate that with its 70% cacao, actually should belong in the dark chocolate segment but significantly creamier. With high cacao percentage, milk from the Tyrol region, and no added sugar, this bar might surprise many with its taste. It might not be for everyone cup of tea, but it offers definitely a very unique experience.

Being one of the first European Bean-to-Bar chocolate makers, Zotter focuses on variety, quality creativity and sustainability, with 100% organic and fair-trade chocolate.

Tasting Notes: Intense chocolate flavor with very creamy texture. Nutty and milky notes. Due to the missing sugar, it has a slight salty sensation.
